Ardgour, along with many Highland estates traditionally pursued large scale farming, with hundreds of sheep wandering the hills, cattle grazing the fields and a great number of agricultural workers involved in the operation.
With changing economics this traditional approach has been replaced by a much smaller scale operation. We now have just over 150 sheep and a number of our fields are let out to tenant farmers and we employ just one farm worker.
The effects on the natural landscape are evident, with fewer sheep grazing the hills the flora and fauna have begun to recover and grow afresh, ushering in a new era for the land.
